Squash, tennis, croquet, golf and bowls have all seen members return and have a game – albeit more socially than competitively, which is likely to be the way for a while yet.
Harriers and cycling are nearing a return, while team sports should be back on the park by June 20.
The Whakatane Bowling Club held their first event since the lockdown with 30 bowlers turning up for a casual game of bowls.
President John Chelly said they all stuck to their allocated groups of six for the whole time and played on the same rink.
The Whakatane Tennis Club opened its gates last Thursday and there’s been plenty of members return to the court for a hit.
